October 2021 Talk

Dear Members and Friends,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, our speaker for October is unable to join us.
Nick Saunders and Chris Hobby have kindly agreed to step into her place and I attach the poster for the talk so that you can see the details.
I will send the Zoom link the day before for those members who wish to see it at home.
The title of the talk is The Indian Army presence in the New Forest in WW1

Nick says:
This talk will review the Indian army presence in the New Forest in WW1 from the artillery camp at Ashurst through to the hospital complex at Brockenhurst and the convalescent depots and Barton on Sea and Milford. Why were Indian soldiers posted to the New Forest in WW1? What impact did their arrival have on the local community? Did the Indian soldiers feel welcomed here? Were they well looked after or poorly treated? What did the Indian soldiers have to say about their stay in the Forest? What can be seen today to remind us of the Indian presence here in WW1? All will be revealed during the talk.
