Ballard History Open day 12th of May 2018

On 12th of May this year there will be an open day at Ballard School. The house was built in 1904 for an American family, the Ubsdells. The house is in the arts and crafts style with some magnificent fireplaces and other features still in place. They also have a heritage room with lots of images and information on the house and estate. There will be two organised guided tours of the building on the day.  If you click on the below link it will take you to the booking.
Would members of the LDHS be interested? If so please can you forward the below link on to them.

Information wanted about Lymington High Street

This has been sent onto the committee on the hope we can help Elizebeth Lewis in her quest for more information, see below:

“ Many of you will know ‘ Lymington High Street, Then and Now ‘ by Robert Coles. Volunteers at St Barbe are aiming to fill in some of the gaps since 1984. If anyone has information, photographs, receipts etc relating to the High Street in the intervening years, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Elizabeth Lewis   01590 688 756 ”

LDHS – Summer is coming

Dear Members and Friends,

Now that the evenings are getting lighter, well a bit anyway, our minds have turned to a fascinating film evening and the summer outing.

WEDNESDAY 18 APRIL 2018 – Film evening at The Malt
We are thrilled that Lord Montagu of Beaulieu has agreed to loan us copies of films covering various aspects of local history and the New Forest. The films will include some previously seen favourites, but also newly discovered films of the New Forest including some rare pre-war colour film. Amongst others there is a film taken from the dashboard of a car driving from Lymington to Cadnam in the 1920s, and others of the annual caravan holidays of children at Walhampton School in the 1960s.
We have booked The Malt Cinema at Lymington Community Centre for the evening of Wednesday 18 April, and we know that you will have a real interest in these stunning images.
Details to follow…….

WEDNESDAY 6 JUNE 2018 – Wilton House, Salisbury
Our summer outing this year follows on from the talk on 23 March by Russ Foster entitled Wilton House and the Herberts ; The art of survival.
We will leave Lymington around 9.30 by coach, and will have the whole day at Wilton House to enjoy the beautiful house and gardens, as well as the two exhibitions – Cecil Beaton at Wilton and Lord Pembroke’s Classic and Supercar Collection.
All details are still to be confirmed, but it would help enormously with the planning if you could let me know if you are interest in attending. Send a message via the contact us page.

Hope to see you at our next meeting on 26 January!
Best wishes
Sue
